15 Minute Fun Stories

Thought this was quite fun...just a bit of cheer on a dreary day

Silly 5 minute micro fiction ideas I had on a disk:

Preparation

She flits from side to side as she descends the stairs, avoiding previously identified creaks. She doesn’t want to wake her parents. It’s dark so she feels her way to the kitchen. She opens the fridge door for light and takes what she needs before Uncle Dan’s visit tomorrow.

She dislikes Uncle Dan. He is loud and laughs with a snort. He has long black hairs protruding from his nostrils and large square, broken teeth that remind her of paving stones. His burgundy cheeks and pin pricked, puffy nose would be humorous if they belonged to someone else’s uncle.

She is in her room when Uncle Dan arrives. She could pretend to be ill if her Mother’s Sunday Roast didn’t smell so good.

“Uncle Dan is here.” Her mother calls.
            “Be down soon.” She replies.

She appears when all are seated at the table. Luckily, Mother has placed Dan next to her brother. She tries not to think while she eats. The real test comes at tea time. Dan is in the armchair by the window. He pats the arm of the chair and beckons her to him. She is not ready and thinking quickly says: “Just need to get something”, then dashes to her room.

When she returns she takes in a deep breath and squeezes her lips tightly together as she sits on the arm of Dan’s chair. Dan is about to give her one of his ghastly, slobbery kisses when she exhales. He jolts back from her as though she’s hot coals. She smiles and heads for the garden.

“Disgusting,” she splutters as she spits out the garlic triumphantly. “But worth it”.

I belong to a creative writing group (8 of us). We have all become great friends and going to our 2 hour meetings is a real highlight for me. We have some fantastic writers in the group and my favourite part of the time is reading or listening to a piece of work by a group member.

Each member has the opportunity to run the group. We will have one, or if time permits two 15 minute exercises. Someone will bring an idea or an object or picture, and we have 15 minutes to write a story (with no edits of course) around the idea. We then read them out. Some of our member's stories are mind blowing, especially as we have so little time.

I will share a few of the exercises to be used by anyone who would like to try them. I'll also throw in some of my own 15 minuter's...that should generate some smiles ....

Meanwhile, try this.

Write a short story about an emotion in 15 minutes but, you must not name the emotion, instead you must describe it.  For example with the sadness you might want to say: "I felt a lump n my throat...etc"

Good luck and feel free to publish it here.
